If you’re an adult, it’s your kids, your spouse, your aging parents, your career, your money, your health.
If you’re a teenager, it’s your friends, your appearance, the math test, college, how you played on Saturday, keeping your parents happy.
Either way, you prepare for the next inevitable tragedy and the horrible imaginary future you’ve built for yourself.
What if I lose my job?
What if my husband gets cancer and dies?
What if my kids make bad choices?
Your sleep goes first. Then your work, then your health, then the people you were preparing to protect.
What you want is to feel safe with the people who matter most to you.

Most of what fuels your anxiety is older than anything happening in your life right now.
Old emotion went underground years ago. Your circumstances today keep setting it off. Your mind registers those feelings in the present tense.
So an ordinary Tuesday can suddenly feel like something that happened when you were nine.
You’re high functioning in most areas of your life. There are one or two places that still need to be addressed, and you already know which ones.
I work with adults and teenagers 14+. The teenagers I take are the ones who know something’s wrong and want to work on it.
Most of that work happens through Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT). ETT reaches the brain through your visual field, the same channel EMDR uses.
Specific colors and wavelengths of light open a door to what your words have been circling for years.

ETT is a gentle but powerful intervention.
You won’t feel overwhelmed – we can regulate the pace at which we work.
You don’t have to relive your trauma over and over. Often one time through is enough to find significant relief.
For telehealth, I mostly use Brainspotting. It lends itself better to a screen.
Brainspotting uses your eye position to find where the emotion is held. From there, your brain finishes processing it once we are able to access it.
Either way, what I watch happen is people getting there in far fewer sessions than talk therapy takes. The memory itself stays. What changes is how much emotional charge is left on it.
Clients describe it something like this:
There’s a version of your day where the sunshine registers again.
You’re present with your kids.
You’re actually listening instead of scanning ahead for the next thing to prevent.
The planning loop quiets, because you’re no longer the only thing standing between your family and disaster.
Whatever comes next, you can handle it.
If counseling in the past didn’t produce the results you hoped for, don’t give up.
ETT comes at the problem from a completely different angle. I’ve watched remarkable things happen for people who thought they were hopeless cases.
